Free Phlebotomy Training

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011 By Ryan Eisenhower 1 Comment

Getting free phlebotomy training is possible if you know where to look and do your research.  Phlebotomy training courses can be expensive with a cost range of $500.00 – $5000.00, so it is well worth the time investment to explore all of your options.

Local Opportunities

If you are unemployed, check with the local unemployment office, especially if you are collecting unemployment checks. Many times they have a listing of free or low cost classes designed to get you back to work. They also have programs to get your training on the fast track at the local community college for a new, in-demand career.

Rehabilitation offices and local welfare assistance offices are also good places to inquire about getting classes paid for.

In some areas the Red Cross will train phlebotomists for a small fee, and United Blood Services will hire and train you so that you not only get free training, you also make a wage while learning the skills. Make a stop at your local blood bank. If they have a need for phlebotomists they may have a training program.

Another local office to check with is Job Corps, or AmeriCorp. They will expect you to put in some time working for them during and after training, but it is a good way to get started with no out of pocket expense.

Hospital Phlebotomy Training Opportunities

If you are already employed in healthcare, approach your employer and explain your interest in phlebotomy training. Many companies have educational benefits. If you are working in a hospital you can ask for on the job training. This is another way you can train and get paid at the same time.

Even if you are not already employed in healthcare, and you live in a city where there are large hospitals with a need for laboratory personnel, they will offer programs in the workplace, or offer to pay for classes if you come to work for them. Most will want a contract for 6 months to a year for your services.

Rehabilitation

If you are out of work because of a heavy labor injury, or have had a past drug or alcohol problem, talk to a rehab counselor about educational assistance to begin a new career. They have programs that will pay for tuition, books, lab fees, uniforms, or anything else that is required for the course of study. You just have to meet their low income guidelines.

There are all kinds of opportunities out there. It just takes some research to find out what is available in your area. Many of these programs are not advertised, and you can’t be afraid to ask. Take the initiative and find your opportunity for free phlebotomy training.

I would like to pursue the phlebotomy course you are offering, what is the criteria? Are outsiders welcome to pursue this course with your institution? When will the course commence and what type of certification is being offered? Is your course accredited and what your course outline like? I would surly like to see the course outline. Could you please send this as well. Awaiting your response.
